Our Top Gatwick Hotels of 2017

When you're heading off somewhere exotic, or even somewhere nearby, there are always worries about traffic, problems arising, and generally being late to the airport. Overall, this can add up to a rather unpleasant start to your break, and that is not something you should be experiencing!

Travel should be fun from start to finish, so it's important to find ways to get rid of the stress, and perhaps even start your break in a fun and relaxed manner.

A good way to do that? Book a Gatwick Airport hotel, so you can chill the heck out before your flight, safe in the knowledge that you're not going to be late because you're right on the doorstep!

You might be thinking this is an unnecessary expense, but that's not the case!

Airport hotels are much lower cost than you probably even realise, and you can even combine them with airport parking bundles in some case, to save cash even further. The peace of mind and comfort you receive really is worth the cost, and when it comes to preparing for long haul flights or even ridiculously early set off times, having a few hours' extra sleep will make the difference between a stress-free journey, and a terrible one!

When you fly from Gatwick, the whole traffic issue can be even more of a problem, because you have to get in or around London, and that's never easy at the best of times! We've reviewed the best Gatwick Airport hotels to take the stress of figuring out which hotel to go with, letting you know the honest pros and cons of each, so you can make your decision much easier.

Our hotels are all great choices regardless of your circumstances, but some do suit certain types of travellers more than others – we give you all the information you need, to make the right choice for you.

Are you ready to start your break sooner?

Top 5 Gatwick Hotels

1. Premier Inn

2. Travelodge

3. Holiday Inn

4. Express by Holiday Inn

5. Hilton

1. Premier Inn, Gatwick Airport:

Premier Inn is a big brand name, so that gives you confidence that your stay is going to be comfortable to the max. Reviews are fantastic for this hotel, and whilst it is located at the North Terminal, it's not too far away from the South Terminal, if that is where you are flying from, and there is a shuttle service. This is a 24-hour hotel too, so there is always someone on hand to help you out, if you're stuck, or if you're checking in or out late.

What is so great about the rooms?

The good thing about the rooms at the Premier Inn is that you can choose a type of room to fit your needs, so you can go for a single room, a double room, a quadruple room, a family room, or a triple room – basically, no matter what your circumstances, and that's great for families. Everything inside the room is modern and functional, as well as soundproofed, giving you a comfortable base for the night before you jet off on your travels.

What makes this hotel a winner?

Basically, you're getting a comfortable base, and whilst it's never going to win five-star awards, you're not going to be missing anything you need either. Comfortable beds, clean surroundings, hot showers, TV, non-smoking rooms, breakfast on tap, and a 24-hour reception – what more could you need for you pre-holiday stay? There is also a bar on site so you can get into the holiday mood the night before you leave! On top of this, it's all about the location too.

What is the food like?

The restaurant is known for its great coffee, with an on-site Costa Coffee, and when you have an early flight, a good cup of coffee is always a bonus! On top of that, there is an on-site restaurant (Thyme Restaurant) and a bar too, and breakfast is all you can eat, included in the price. You don't have to worry about missing your flight check in time either, as there are live flight status updates in the lounge, giving you all the info you need whilst you dine or have a beverage or two.

In terms of what kind of food you can eat, the Premier Inn does cater for many different diets, including gluten-free. Breakfast is continent, full English or Irish, and all in a buffet style. You can purchase meals at the restaurant throughout the rest of the day, as well as snacks.

Who should book this hotel?:

This hotel is great for families and couples alike, because of the number of different room types. The Premier Inn is also great for those on a budget.

Where is this hotel?:

The Premier Inn Gatwick Airport is located at the North Terminal of the airport, in Crawley, but it is also very close to the shuttle transport to the South Terminal also.

Can I include parking?:

There is ample public parking very close to the airport, at a cost of £19.50 per day.

2. Travelodge, Gatwick Airport:

Again, everyone knows about Travelodge, and most people have stayed in one at some point. The Gatwick Airport branch is located just a mile away from the terminal buildings, and that means you can easily get there from the hotel without any fuss.

The rooms are also modern yet comfortable, and there are extras which make your stay top class, for a great price. The hotel also offers a flexible rate booking, so you can cancel your hotel stay up until noon on the day you are due to arrive, in case something changes. Peace of mind is everything!

What is so great about the rooms?

The beds are actually designed with a restful night's sleep in mind, with a king-sized bed in all, designed by Sleepeezee exclusively for the hotel chain. On top of this, you have exclusive access to a TV with 17 channels, tea and coffee facilities, Wi-Fi, and hot shower. The downside? Double rooms only, which doesn't make it the best choice for larger families or groups who don't want to be split up; for couples, however, this is a great option.

What makes this hotel a winner?

Travelodge put so much emphasis on comfort that it's impossible not to place that as the main reason. If you're about to jet off on a long-haul flight, you want to be as rested the night before as possible, and it's not difficult to do that in a Travelodge room! The other advantage that the hotel is close enough to the airport to be within a stone's throw, but not so close that you get all the traffic and overall noise.

What is the food like?

A buffet breakfast is available in your booking and this is continental style and packed with enough nutrition to keep you going throughout the morning! There is a bar café on site which serves evening meals too.

Who should book this hotel?

The Travelodge is ideal for couples who are jetting off together or for single/business travellers.

Where is this hotel?

The hotel is one mile away from the airport itself, and there are shuttle buses which run from the hotel to the terminal buildings regularly, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This journey only takes around 15 minutes to the South Terminal, and 20 minutes to the North Terminal, traffic depending.

Can I include parking?

You can book your parking spot at the hotel in advance of your arrival, and this is to be recommended because it can book up quite fast. Parking charges are £8 per 24 hours, and there is a maximum stay of 14 nights.

3. Holiday Inn, Gatwick Airport:

The Holiday Inn Gatwick Airport is like a holiday resort in its own right; you might not want to leave it! There are many on-site facilities and the rooms are ultra-comfortable, literally next door to the airport itself. Of course, this is also one of the biggest names in UK airports, and because of that, it books up rather quickly. This is a great choice for families, but also for groups too.

What is so great about the rooms?

There are several room size options available, so again, if you're travelling with a family this is a good go-to, with a mixture of single, double, and sofa beds on offer. Rooms are all air-conditioned and have flat screen TVs, with a range of movies to choose from. The usual mod-cons are included, as well as blackout curtains, soundproofing, and a well-stocked bathroom, always with hot water on tap, literally.

What makes the hotel a winner?

If you choose to stay at the Holiday Inn, it's like starting your break early, because of the number of leisure facilities on offer at the hotel itself. A bar, restaurant, free Wi-Fi all over the hotel, great food options, and comfortable rooms. Many previous customers all state that they felt their holiday had begun when they arrived at the hotel.

What is the food like?

The Trader's Restaurant serves delicious meals all day long, as well as the buffet breakfast, which consists of continental style, as well as full English/Irish choices. Throughout the day you can grab a burger or a curry, as well as many other 'pub food' choices, and kids under 13 eat free with an adult purchasing a meal. The Hub Bar is a lively yet relaxing place to grab a drink, and the big sports games are shown on the big screen TV.

Who should book this hotel?

This is a great all-rounder choice, but because of the meal discounts, it's a good go-to for families in particular.

Where is this hotel?

Gatwick Airport itself is a three-minute drive away from the hotel, and shuttle buses run regularly to the terminal building 24/7.

Can I include parking?

There is on-site parking available for a charge, and this is best booked beforehand to avoid disappointment. The rates are certainly competitive.

4. Express by Holiday Inn, Gatwick Airport:

Holiday Inn Express is a smaller and more budget option choice of the Holiday Inn franchise, and if you are a couple or friends who are wanting somewhere to stay before jetting off on holiday, this is a great base to opt for. Of course, the on-site Harvester restaurant doesn't hurt things either!

What is so great about the rooms?

The rooms in the Express are basic but comfortable, and that's no bad thing! Choose between twin or double, with the option to upgrade to a double room with a sofa bed too. Rooms are all air-conditioned and have a flat-screen TV, tea and coffee facilities, and well-stocked bathroom. There is free Wi-Fi in all rooms too; in fact, many previous customers rated the hotel highly on the quality of the Wi-Fi.

What makes the hotel a winner?

Price and quality basically, and that is a winning combination. Rooms are comfortable and functional, as well as being very pleasantly decorated if that kind of thing is important to you! For couples and single travellers, this is a fantastic option, and whilst families may not find as many facilities here as there could be, if you're just wanting somewhere to rest and be close to the airport, with the option of a good meal too, this is a great go-to.

What is the food like?

There is an on-site Harvester restaurant which is budget-friendly and offers a range of meals to keep you full and satisfied until you leave for the airport. There is also a big buffet breakfast on offer every morning, including continental and cooked choices. There is a lounge bar on site also, with sports shown on big screen TVs, serving alcoholic and soft drink beverages to make your stay more laid-back.

Who should book this hotel?

This hotel is ideal for couples who are about to head off on holiday together, or for single travellers. Business travellers will also find that this hotel suits all their needs, offering that comfortable base required.

Where is this hotel?

The hotel is literally at the airport, with a shuttle bus running to either terminal building. On top of this, you are five minutes away from the M23 and very close to the nearest railway station, Three Bridges Rail Station, which serves the centre of London and as far as Brighton.

Can I include parking?

The hotel offers packages for parking up to certain amounts of days, which you can tailor-make to your particular holiday plans. Book this in advance to get the best rates, and to avoid disappointment.

5. Hilton, Gatwick Airport:

You couldn't be any closer to the airport by staying at the Hilton, because you can literally walk there, via the covered walkway to the South Terminal! If you're flying from the North Terminal, you can connect from there to the quick and convenient shuttle which takes literally minutes, through the airport grounds.

Hilton is a big named brand, and here you are getting four-star luxury before you jet off to wherever in the world you are going.

There are various different room sizes available, so you have ample space no matter what your circumstances. Rooms are all decorated in a sleek and modern manner, with everything you could possibly need, as well as air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, minibar, and well-stocked en-suite bathroom. You basically won't struggle to get a good night's rest here!

What makes the hotel a winner?

You are literally at the airport, literally right there, and that goes a long way to give peace of mind and to help you start your break earlier than you would have done otherwise. You don't have to worry about short drives or shuttle buses, you literally grab your case and walk for a couple of minutes! The luxury and comfort is also second to none, because of the Hilton name.

What is the food like?

An on-site coffee shop will sort out your early morning caffeine needs, as well as the choice to have your breakfast delivered to your room! There is a kid-friendly buffet at breakfast time, so no worries about faddy eaters, and there is also an a la carte restaurant on site if you want to make your stay extra special. The bar is on hand for evening beverages too.

Who should book this hotel?

This is an all-rounder hotel, and if you don't have to worry too much about booking on a budget, then this is a good option because of its close proximity to everything. Business travellers use this hotel a lot, but that's not to say that families are left out, with facilities for children on hand also.

Where is this hotel?

Located at the South Terminal of the airport, connected by a covered walkway.

Can I include parking?

There is no parking available at the hotel as such, instead you can make great use of Gatwick Airport parking packages instead.

Directions from

Gatwick airport is easy to reach from the M23 and M25 motorways, which connect the area to London and the rest of the country. Hotels in the Gatwick airport area span up to 11 miles from the terminals but all are very well connected by road.

Taxi and/or shuttle bus services operate from Gatwick terminals to all of the hotels that we provide for our customers, helping ensure your journey runs smoothly. Gatwick hotels with parking

If you need Gatwick airport parking, we can offer some amazing deals which combine a hotel stay with car parking. We find travellers who started shopping for just parking, often welcome a deal at one of our excellent value hotels. Our combined offers for a Gatwick hotel and parking are incredible value, often only a little more than the price of parking alone.

Keep 'Airport Hotels with parking' selected when you enter your dates and click on search. We will return quotes for all our combined deals.

At Gatwick, there are a few different options for parking when you stay at a hotel. You will need to check the details of each hotel to discover if they offer parking themselves or if you can combine your stay with a separate parking service.

Option summary

  • Some of our hotels have space in their car park for you to leave your vehicle there for the duration of your holiday. This option is usually described as hotel parking.
  • Alternatively, you can book parking at an official car park or an independent provider, combining the cost with your hotel stay for a great package deal.
  • Some parking providers offer a Meet and Greet service which allows you to drop off and pick up your car at the terminal, saving you the bother of parking and using transfer buses.

Our recommendations - making it easy

We think the simplest option for a hotel stay with parking is to book either the Hilton or the Sofitel. The reason for this is because both hotels offer parking in their own car park and are linked to the airport terminals, so you can walk straight to check-in from the hotel.

You may need to book early to secure a space in the hotel car park. If they don't have spaces available, we think the next best option is to book a Park and Ride service, which will drop you off at the terminal and you can walk to the Hilton or Sofitel. They are both great options because you don't need to worry about moving your car on the morning you fly out, leaving you more time for a leisurely breakfast!

Whatever you decide, there is always an option to make sure that you won't have a motoring meltdown.
